Assessment

At Cheadle Primary, our approach to assessment is designed to support your child’s progress in a clear, fair, and practical way. We use a range of methods to understand what children know and can do, including day-to-day classroom checks, short tasks, and age-appropriate reviews. This helps us identify strengths, address gaps early, and provide the right level of challenge so every child can move forward confidently.

Assessment at primary level is not about passing or failing children; it is about informing teaching and helping families understand learning. Teachers use evidence gathered from lessons and activities to plan next steps, set achievable targets, and monitor development over time. Where appropriate, pupils may be asked to reflect on their learning, explain their thinking, and demonstrate progress in different ways, supporting both confidence and understanding.

We value strong communication with parents and carers. You will receive information about your child’s learning through reports, meetings, and regular updates, and you are encouraged to ask questions at any time. If you would like to discuss how assessment is used in your child’s year group, or how you can support learning at home, please contact the school and we will be happy to help.
